From Sunlight to Savings
Photovoltaic (PV) Solar panels:
The solar panels capture sunlight and convert it into direct current (DC) electricity – Each panel is made up of usually silicon-based cells, which absorb photons from sunlight knocking electrons loose to create a flow of direct current (DC) electricity.
Charge Controller:

Optional Batteries:
Batteries store excess solar energy for use during cloudy days or at night, providing energy independence and backup power.
Inverter:
The inverter is the equipment mounted to a wall and it converts DC electricity (from the panels or batteries) into alternating current (AC), which is the standard used by home appliances and the electrical grid.
SmartShunt & Display:
This reads and monitors the energy metrics, energy production, battery use and consumption of the entire solar array and system, and may also handle net metering—tracking how much solar energy is sent to or drawn from the grid.
AC Distribution Panel:
The AC power from the inverter is fed into the home’s main electrical meter board/box or distribution panel, distributing electricity to various circuits and appliances for real time use.
Optional Backup Generator:
A generator can automatically or manually provide power during extended outages or when solar and battery resources are insufficient.
